Snaps for Disney
December 14, 2007Do you think the media influences our views? Why or why not? Do you think it depends on what age you are when you are exposed to media (are you more likely to be influenced by something you see when you are younger or older?) Do you think Disney is unique in how it uses stereotypes? Do you think you might view cartoons or other films differently after seeing this documentary? Do you think it will affect your own work in any way?
I think that the media does influence our views. Media is everywhere we go; it’s at home, on the streets, and even at school. I think that parents will influence there children more then anything, because most kids when there younger want to be like there parents.
Disney is a personal favorite of mine and I do not believe it is sending the wrong message to children. I watched Disney my whole life and not once did I ever think it was stereotyping, I didn’t even think about it till I seen this movie. For example Pocahontas I understand that they didn’t tell us what really happened, but neither has any movie based on a true story. It is a movie for kids; she talks to a humming bird, a raccoon, and a weeping willow tree, how can you pull any truth out of a movie like this? Mickey Mouse Monopoly has not changed my views on Disney or the media, most of us ourselves have lied or changed parts of a story to make it sound nicer or cooler. I don’t think this will affect my work either.
